Drake Carr

b. 1993, Flint, Michigan, USA

Drake Carr was born in 1993 in Flint, MI, and currently lives and works in New York City, NY.  Carr explores performance, persona, and spectatorship through drawings, cutout figures, and architectural fragments that flirt with theatricality. Inspired by the overlapping genres of fashion illustration and society portraiture, he works with his subjects to style and pose them in dynamic ways, often staging them within collaboratively designed sets. In all of his work, Carr paints a portrait of the communities he moves through that is simultaneously humorous and earnest, exaggerated and true-to-life.
